Having visited Tasmania in the middle of the "dry" season some years past Pete guided me onto some beautiful rainbows that fought like crazy. Recently I returned to Tassie to catch up with some friends and made contact with Pete in the hope he could take me "up top" for a day. Pete explained most lakes had closed (May) however, weather permitting, he knew of a good spot to fish the Great Lake, which remains open all year round. Pete picked the day and off we went. Residing in Mackay Queensland I feel the Tassie cold. Pete supplied all the clothing to ensure my comfort. We had an excellent day, landing five and loosing two. As he did on the previous trip, Pete had everything under control, picked me up on time and dropped me back off at my hotel. The food and the hot soup were excellent and of course, his local knowledge was again unquestionable. Peter Emailed me through the photos of my day which I have passed around all my friends who can't believe we could catch fish in such great condition effectively after the season.

I have been visiting Tasmania for fly-fishing vacations for many years.
Over the past years Pete Castles has been guiding me into places I only dreamed about or places I didn't know existed. Whether it was 4WD bush bashing into lakes Julian, and Pillans, fishing the beautiful lakes on the West Coast and staying in a comfortable house in the township of Tullah, or exploring hard to find lakes like lake Lea, Pete was the man.
Pete spotted a monster cruising close to the shoreline at Upper Jullian Lake. He directed me right onto him. A moment I will never forget. Pete is very knowledgeable in relation to all fishing aspects but above all, he is a top man and great fun to hang around with.

My first fishing trip to Tasmania was unbelievable. Peter placed me on a shoreline at Arthur's Lake where I didn't have to share the beautiful bay with another person for the entire day. With Peter's assistance I bagged out (12) on my first day. Great fighting big wild browns. I laughed a lot that day and I'm still smiling.

Pete you know how to hunt those big brownies down Thanks for a great 2

I have been bush walking all over Tasmania for most of my life. Along the way I have occasionally ran into bush walkers who fly fish in these remote areas. One of these days in particular I stumbled across a couple of guys fishing and both were fighting very large fish. I stood in amazement and watched these craftsmen at work. Upon the landing and viewing of the fish they were released back into the water. After approaching these guys and over a cuppa I discovered Peter was a guide. With the blood still pumping I booked a two-day trip with him in the hope he could teach me how to catch a fish on the fly and then hopefully land it.
A couple of weeks later we took Peter's boat on to Arthur's lake. The conditions were miserable however, Peter made way to a sheltered area and preceded to introduce me to the art of fly-fishing. The fishing was slow but after a while I had a chance and missed the hook up. Peter persisted with me and on dark I finally hooked and landed my first fish. The accommodation, food and beverage that night were excellent. Peter looked after me like I was a long lost friend. The next morning we headed into Wood's Lake where we could be spared the nasty gale force winds. A very pleasant day was had with Peter again assisting me in the art. We caught a couple of beautiful brown trout to cap off an excellent trip.
I have kept in contact with Peter and have booked his services again, this time to show me all about fishing the western lake area. I can attest to Peter's professionalism, his pride in his work and his ability to make you feel welcome and at peace with the world.

I have had the pleasure of sharing Pete's company on hundreds of fishing trips all over Tasmania in all sorts of conditions. His character won't let him complain and he will never give up. We have walked all through the Western Lakes, been the first boat launched early morning on hundreds of lakes, (and most times the last boat back) fished in gale force winds, snow, sleet, hail and thunder storms, suffered in unbearable hot cloudless days, and we have even resorted to breaking the ice on the lake to get our flies under the water. Are we keen, you bet we are. I have no hesitation in recommending Pete as a guide who will ensure your safety, make you comfortable, teach you something if required, make you laugh, and he will do everything possible to help catch those beautiful wild Tasmanian trout.
